The Life-Changing Magic of Being Honest About Money

a conversation with Cody Cook-Parrott
8

Welcome to the start of my research project and conversation series!

As you know if you’ve been in my corner of the internet for even a little while, I am deeply devoted to the question of “how much money is enough” — both in my own life and in the world at large.

I truly don’t know the shape that this research project will take, but I do know that I’ve got a lotttt of questions that I’m excited to talk through with friends and mentors. I hope you enjoy following along!

To kick things off, I’m delighted to share a conversation I recently had with my beloved friend

— writer, artist, quilt maker, teacher, and host of some of my favorite zoom rooms (especially their twice a week writing group, called Landscapes, which is supporting me so much in my own writing practice these days).

Cody and I share a willingness to talk openly about things that haven’t been “wrapped up” in a neat little bow, and that’s exactly what this conversation is. They share what caused them to finally begin engaging with the real, specific numbers of their financial life, the experience of needing to adjust to a lower income this year, the role of self-worth in one’s ability to earn, the myths of what a rich person even is and what happens when we believe that being rich is bad or we don’t deserve money, and so much more.

I can’t wait to hear what comes up for you as you listen — comments are open for all paid subscribers (as always!) and I’d love to have you join us to discuss.

Happy listening :)

Nic
